Don’t let the holidays throw off your healthy eating!
21 AprIt is amazing what you can do with one day of eating off plan. Seems the traditional American Easter dinner consist of ham (glazed in honey), rolls, eggs, potatoes, carrots, and lots and lots of easter candy. This can add up to double, even triple your normal caloric intake. You don’t have to starve yourself or eat rice cakes and chicken breast for Easter dinner, instead make a more sensible menu plan!
* Lamb. Lamb is rich in B12, iron, and zinc and is also known to metabolize fat in the human body (BONUS!) because it contains carnitine.
* Yams. Yams are high in vitamins C, B6, potassium, manganese, and fiber. They are also low in sodium and saturated fats. Because of this yams are known to help fight osteoporosis and heart disease. Yams have a lower glycemic index than other potatoes. You can make mashed, baked, or grilled yams! Top with greek yogurt and some cinnamon and you will think you are having dessert for dinner!
* Spinach Salad. Spinach is high in vitamins and antioxidants. Watch Popeye? ‘Nuff said ![]()
* Deviled Eggs. (I have a GREAT recipe in my new cookbook for this!) Take the yolks out of half and mix the other half however you normally make them. Takes out some of that saturated fat!
* Strawberry Shortcake. We do like to indulge a bit on holidays. Make a non-traditional strawberry shortcake using a gluten free english muffin, light coolwhip and fresh strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Sweeten with a packet of stevia if you like! You can mix your fresh fruit with a couple Tbs of fresh fruit jam to get more of a gooey texture.
So there you have it! A clean, delicious Easter dinner! Enjoy your family and the good food you will prepare for them!
Happy Easter!!
Reach the finishline to good health
19 Apr
You wake up every morning with the drive and determination to start working toward your own personal health goals. Whether it is to lose fat, gain muscle, run a race, compete in a competition, or fit into that wonderful pair of Vintage jeans that are collecting dust in your closet. Then the day starts, kids fighting, dog crying to go outside, that laundry pile is getting out of hand, and you have a ba-zillion errands to run before your get together on Saturday. So, you look at yourself in the mirror and promise yourself that you will start next Monday (it’s Tuesday). Why, ladies, why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we think so little of ourselves to put us last?! We go on the rest of that week thinking we will start Monday so what do we do? We eat junk, we don’t exercise, we are making our health WORSE. Well Monday comes and goes…actually a LOT of Monday’s come and go and here we are again looking at ourselves in the mirror and now we are thinking, what did I do to myself?! We’ve put ourselves last for so long now we are 20, 40, 60, 100+ pounds over weight. We are unhappy, unhealthy, and now we are lost. How do I know this, well I have been there! More than once, I am sad to say. We work so hard at everything else, lets work hard on ourselves and just watch how EASY other things in life become! No, it is not because we become superwoman (we already are;) ). It is because we are determined to prove to ourselves and everyone else that we can stick with something and succeed and do what many people don’t have the willpower to do. I mean, look around. It is a very sad statistic how many obese and overweight people there are in our country. And unless you are a doctor making millions off of the unhealthy people, you are NOT winning that race! And we are NOT setting good examples for our children and grandchildren. This is YOUR wake up call. A wake up call to change your life!
This is what you should do when you wake up. You look in that mirror and you say to yourself that you are worth it. Yes you are busy, yes you have many things to do today. BUT you have scheduled in time to get in that workout and eat those clean delicious meals you prepared for yourself the night before (saves time and money to prep once or twice a week and portion out meals for the week). So, no more excuses ladies. You can win this race and cross that finish line with pride. So, put on those cute Nike Free pink and black (yes i do love these myself
) tennies, grab your Ipod and water bottle and start that day off right. I will meet you at the finish line to hand you your reward…a new, healthy, forever you.
REVIEW: P28 High Protein Bread
16 AprI had heard about this bread through some FB feeds and knew that I MUST try it! I contacted them and they were so generous to send me a sample to review for all of you.
First let me tell you, I was VERY skeptical. I mean come on a bread that has 14 g protein and only 12 g carbs per slice….They must be kidding. It probably taste like cardboard. If not this is every fitness, bodybuilding, bikini, fitness models, health nut’s DREAM COME TRUE… Well it is ( a dream come true that is). This bread ROCKS! I had the bagel for a post workout snack today. I love bagels, but I don’t eat them because they are high in carbs (one bagel has over 40 grams of carbs!). So I haven’t eaten them for over 3 years. This p28 High Protein Bagel has 25 grams carbs and 28 grams protein! I am seriously in LOVE!
Toasted with 1 Tbs all natural fresh almond butter and half an organic banana. I died and went to heaven for that 15 minutes it took me to devour that! Ok, so I toasted it of course! The texture is awesome. It had that thin layer of crunchy’ness on top yet soft on the inside, and that bagel texture underneath. The taste is amazing. I could have ate this alone and loved it. I am full and hunger is satisfied. Not to mention I am a little giddy about the post workout pump I got after eating it
So, my review…I LOVE this stuff. I will be buying a HUGE case of it and will never be without it. I have found my post workout snack for sure! Of course I will play with more recipe ideas
I am going to find out if we can do a giveaway so one of our Fit Mom’s can get some of this amazing bread!
Check out their site HERE. Thank you P28 High Protein Bread for an amazing high quality product! You have gained a forever customer in this Fit Mom!
